The Happiness House
The happiness house is sickening to those of us who don’t get it, isn’t it? You know the house I am talking about. It’s the one where the whole family is just blissful with all kinds of happiness all the time. In fact, people in the neighborhood think they are freaks with all of the happiness they experience. Nobody ever overhears a fight and the kids never seem to act up. The happiness house makes us all feel just a little less worthy and just a little more inept. Yet the happiness house is really an inspiration even if we don’t wish to admit it. The happiness house is the house we want to sneak up on in the middle of the evening and look into as if we could learn their secret by mere observation.Maybe we should befriend the people of the happiness house. After all, if they are as happy as they seem then not only might we learn something but we are bound to enjoy their company. Maybe we don’t feel we are happy enough to be friends with its inhabitants. Oddly enough, their joy is the one thing that keeps people away. How interesting it is that we are more fearful of befriending people who are genuinely and obviously happy over people who are obviously not overflowing with happiness. What would happen, I wonder, if we all threw our care into the wind and settled on just asking the people of the happiness house what they are so happy about all the time. My guess is that the answer would seem so blazingly simple.
